June 2015

Summer time has kicked on here in New Orleans. To celebrate the end of the school year, RUBARB teamed up with our neighborhood school, Akili Academy, the New Orleans Public Library, and New Orleans bike advocacy group, Bike Easy, to host a Family Bike Clinic on June 5 at Akili. Several familiar RUBARB youth faces were seen in helmets, doing bike safety drills, and helping at the mechanics station. RUBARB distributed about 10 helmets to participants at the bike clinic. Congratulations and thanks to all who participated!

Summer time also means that RUBARB has temporary volunteers passing by and helping out at the shop. For the past four plus years, Tom Bilderback of the Vieux Carre Baptist Church has sent over a hundred volunteers to RUBARB. Thanks again to him and his steady stream of volunteers willing to share time with us at the shop.

Also, RUBARB took a boat trip in June thanks to volunteer, Logan, and his sea-faring vessel. Lashine, Liz, Chris, and many others took a bike ride to the dock for an afternoon on Lake Pontchartrain. That was a good way to prepare to go to the beach in July!
