May was a busy month at RUBARB! We took a group to Jazz Fest, hosted bike repair nights for the Public Library's summer reading program and had lots of volunteers come by the shop to help out.  RUBARB is also happy to start a partnership with Biking For A Better Life, a riding group from the Gentilly area, and continue our partnership with Girls Rock Summer Camp! Thanks to all who participated and joined us in May!

The weather warmed up and was somewhat rainy throughout the month but definitely got folks looking to fix their bikes for some springtime fun. Schools were pretty much all wrapped up by the end of May so lots of youth have been working on bikes and using the shop.  Summer time at RUBARB can be busy so if you're looking to take on a bigger project, please try to arrive at the shop when we open to make certain you will have enough time to work on your bike project.

NOTE: RUBARB has a new shop policy - no more than 5 bike projects on the shop floor at any given time.  We have 5 bike stands and enough space on the shop floor for about 5 projects at any given time. We also have flat fixing area that is not on the shop floor so minor adjustments and repairs can be completed in that area.

RUBARB went to Jazz Fest 2015 for our annual visit to the festival.  The crew of about 20 played in a Washboard Band, made crafts, and made friends with local wildlife!  This year RUBARB was joined by some youth that Woody invited from the Youth Empowerment Project.

The day started off with a picnic at Stallings Park. Then the crew went over to the New Orleans Jazz Fest and explored the fun kid friendly activity tents throughout the festival grounds.  Good times all around!

Spring has sprung at RUBARB and in New Orleans! The rains were a falling throughout April. In keeping with our gold standard of volunteer collective service, RUBARB kept it breezy  to keep bikers rolling regardless of the weather.

With the changing seasons, RUBARB did have some shift coverage changes. We said goodbye for now to Tristan and Rusty stepped up hard to take the reigns for Wednesday's Open Shop hours.  Also Jerry returned after being ill for multiple weeks.  We are  happy to have him healthy and back in full effect during open shop hours. Ashton and Jerry are volunteers that you will always see at RUBARB during open shop hours!

The summer is right around the corner and we are always looking for more volunteers to help keep the shop open. Also, RUBARB is partnering with the New Orleans Public Library to hook teen readers up with bikes as a reward for keeping those books open throughout the summer!  These are a few ways to be involved with RUBARB throughout the summer, but please reach out to us or come to our monthly meeting on May 20 for more information on being involved at RUBARB.
